Premier of NSW to officially open Parramatta Centre Review of association’s constitution
The Australian Chinese Community Association of NSW Inc ( ACCA ) is pleased to announce that the Premier of NSW Barry O’Farrell will officially open the new Parramatta Centre building located at 15 Hunter St, Parramatta. The two-story building has undergone significant renovations since it was purchased 15 months ago. The ground floor of the building is mainly used as a day care centre for the elderly while the first floor is used as an office for staff and meeting rooms for members to conduct English, computer, photography and other interest classes.
Many local dignitaries and community leaders including the Member for Parramatta and local councilors will also be invited.
“We’re very excited that the Premier is going to officially open our new community centre in Parramatta. The last time a Premier of the state accorded ACCA such an honour was about 25 years ago. In February 1987 the then Premier the Hon Barrie Unsworth officially opened our Head Office building in Surry Hills.” says Ms. Phoebe Alexander, Acting President of ACCA.
“Our Parramatta Centre is very popular. The facilities are regularly used by between 300 to 400 clients and members a week.” says the Hon Helen Sham-Ho OAM, ACCA Council member.
ACCA also announced today that it is undertaking a review of its constitution to bring it in line with contemporary business practices, improve efficiency and corporate governance, and to ensure stronger protection of its assets. The review is also necessary to ensure that ACCA’s constitution complies with the Associations Incorporation Act 2009.
“The last time ACCA’s constitution was reviewed and amended was about 16 years ago. Since then a lot of changes have taken place in ACCA as well as in the industry it operates in.” says Ms. Phoebe Alexander.
“I urge all our members and stakeholders to have a say in this very important exercise. We want to hear from you on how to improve our constitution so that ACCA can continue to grow and prosper while remaining a democratically vibrant organisation. I’m very pleased to be appointed the Chairman of the Constitution Review Committee, its members include Peter Chan, Allen Lee, and Chiming Shea.” says the Hon Helen Sham-Ho OAM, Chairman of the Constitution Review Committee.
“Appropriate and effective provisions within the constitution will assist ACCA with the delivery of services, represent the Chinese community better, protect its property and financial assets, maintain a high standing with government bodies and the public, and utilizes its funds more effectively.” says Peter Chan.
Further information about the constitution review can also be obtained from the ACCA website – www.acca.org.au as well as from all its service centres.
