City of Sydney's Chinese New Year Twilight Parade
ACCA was proud to participate in City of Sydney's annual Chinese New Year Twilight Parade. The parade on 29 January 2012 was the largest Chinese New Year celebration outside of Asia.
This year’s Twilight Parade was one of the biggest and grandest ever organised by City of Sydney with some of Sydney's most iconic buildings illuminated by giant projections along the Parade route wishing spectators 'Kung Hei Fat Choy' as they welcomed in the Year of the Water Dragon. The building projections together with the Twilight parade started at 7:45pm and after the parade, thousands of spectators were awarded with a spectacular Chinese New Year fireworks display followed by street party that continued until midnight.
More than 2,500 local and international performers took part in the Twilight Parade and crowds of over 100,000 people lined the city streets to watch the vibrant and colourful floats, dancers, martial artists, dragons, acrobats and others. The City’s Chinese New Year partner city, Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province in south-western China brought in a giant panda float and about 130 performers which included singers and dancers. There are also groups from Beijing and Shanghai, fabulous floats from local Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese communities, lanterns, fire breathing and martial arts – all winding their way back to the last float of all, the dragon’s tail.
We would like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to ACCA’s CNY Twilight Parade organiser Ms Chen Yi Wen and her performers for volunteering their time in making ACCA’s Twilight Parade a success.
